Hume Opens Outpost in Venice Beach as Wellness Clubs Flourish

The wellness club and members-only community is the latest in a recent upswing of premium, health-focused community spaces

Hume, a wellness club and members-only community created by Los Angeles-based Hume Projects, will open in early 2024, bringing together health and lifestyle facilities for consumers seeking balanced routines.

The club will include nutritional services, fitness classes and other recovery tools while encompassing a “bathhouse-like” atmosphere. Located in the heart of Venice Beach, the club will be close to the ocean and near other hospitality and co-working spaces like Great White, Gran Blanco and NeueHouse Venice.

“Hume was conceived in search of a more balanced lifestyle,” said Hume Co-Founders Roger Briggs and Sandy Bole. “We organized our social lives around healthy activities and wanted to create a modern environment to support those habits while fostering a sense of community and connection.”

“Pieces of what we desired were scattered throughout the world and enjoyed on special occasions but never readily available for our everyday routines,” Briggs and Bole added. “Through Hume, we have set out to build an intentional space devoid of distractions to unite these rituals.”

Hume’s new space, which was previously a Snap Inc. office, is 13,500 square feet and will include an expansive rooftop deck and lounge space for guests. It will feature custom equipment, natural materials and light.

Wellness Clubs Proliferate

Community wellness clubs have been on the rise. Concepts like Remedy Place have proven that some consumers are seeking social environments where health and wellness is prioritized.

The Well is one of the popular New York City wellness clubs. It describes itself as a club for “busy urban professionals” and houses a spa with a sauna, reflexology lounge, yoga and meditation studio, private training gym and more. It focuses on functional and Eastern medicine. Similarly, Remedy Place is marketed as a social wellness club. Designed to replace unhealthy social experiences (like drinking at bars) with activities like ice baths, the club is helping to shape a new definition of wellness.

Othership and Bathhouse are also new players putting a twist on pairing wellness and social experiences.

Hume is capitalizing on that trend through its new wellness club and members community. The club’s mission is a space to separate from daily distractions and stress through a holistic approach to wellness. Membership applications for Hume will open later this summer, and the club’s official opening will occur in early 2024.
