Conor McGregor Introduces FightLab
Train like McGregor with on-demand coaching & punch-tracking technology
Conor McGregor is moving into the connected fitness space with Fightlab, combining live and on-demand coaching. McGregor’s new move comes as hybrid and connected fitness are on the rise.
Developed by performance experts, FightLab utilizes combat training equipment and incorporates real-time data.
The FAST FightLab is being offered for $999 and includes a freestanding heavy bag, FAST training gloves and sensors with punch-tracking technology, three resistance bands, and access to FightLab’s content library.
The system is available now for pre-order and can be delivered to the US, UK, EU, and Australia. Conor McGregor’s FightLab users will need to subscribe to a $29/month companion app.
Fitness enthusiasts are generally stoked for a stress-busting method like boxing, but FitLab says McGregor’s system offers increased fitness benefits.
“Fighters are among the fittest athletes in the world, and Conor McGregor is one of the best fighters of all time. McGregor FAST FightLab was designed to emulate the way that Conor trains, from the intensity to the structure and everything in between. We don’t see it as boxing fitness, because other punching offerings in the market are just about hitting stuff to sweat more. FightLab incorporates striking as part of a greater training system that educates athletes about the purpose of each movement and the goal of each training session in order to maximize results,” says Brian Kirkbride, FitLab Co-CEO.
While some gyms are still struggling due to the pandemic and mask mandates, FitLab says its system offers a safe and effective way to work out at home but is a proponent of hybrid fitness. “We believe hybrid fitness is here to stay. The modern athlete wants to be able to train wherever, whenever, and however they desire, which means the at-home experience is as important as the in-studio session. We don’t look at our consumer’s journey in a binary way, which is why you can expect FightLab to show up in more than one place,” Kirkbride tells Athletech News.
The former UFC champ modeled the training gloves on Instagram and provided a sampling of what one can expect from his training app.
The FAST training gloves could put an end to painful eye pokes, which can occur during UFC fighting. Sportskeeda says that the design of McGregor’s gloves differ from those used by UFC. The new gloves have a rounded design that covers the fingers, preventing fighters from extending their fingers and causing an eye poke. The jabs to the eye have been a well-documented issue in the UFC with some requiring surgery and serious ongoing vision afflictions.
Forbes ranked McGregor as the world’s highest paid athlete in 2021, earning a reported $180 million. Dana White, UFC president, recently shared that McGregor is looking for a comeback this summer and may return against Nate Diaz. McGregor hasn’t fought since July 2021, when he broke his leg in a match with Dustin Poirier.
